Listen to PFLAG President Sandra Richard and Alexia Kosmider Discuss the Life of Alexia's Partner and Sandra's Cousin, Deb Monuteaux during their StoryCorps Session on July 29, 2016

Rhode Island Public Radio and StoryCorps just completed their stay in Providence collecting stories for the StoryCorps national oral history project that provides people with the opportunity to record, share, and preserve their life stories.  They are now moving on to their next stop in Burlington, VT.

The heart of StoryCorps is a 40-minute conversation between two people who know each other.  At the end of the conversation, participants take home a CD recording to share with family and friends.  With the participants’ permission, a copy will be archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.  You can also make copies of your CD for friends and family or post the audio online.  StoryCorps recordings celebrate the voices and milestones in our community and provide a unique opportunity to interact with the people PFLAG serves.

You can listen to our PFLAG Chapter President Sandra Richard talk about growing up in Rhode Island with her cousin Deb Monuteaux who was Alexia Kosmider's partner of over 10 years on the link below.  Deb passed away after a brief illness in November of 2012.  She and Alexia were instrumental in getting the documentary film, TransJourney, about Sandra's transgender daughter Annabelle, off the ground.  You can also view the slideshow below which includes photos of Sandie and Deb growing up.

You can also listen to other sample stories by visiting the StoryCorps website at www.StoryCorps.org.
