PFLAG's Mission

PFLAG Supports
When people discover that a loved one is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBTQ), they may experience conflicting feelings and thoughts, ranging from shock, fear, anger, and disbelief, to confusion and sadness. Knowing that LGBTQ people are frequent victims of hate crimes, they may also worry about the safety of loved ones.

Sharing in dialogue with other PFLAG parents, family members and friends, and getting to know some wonderful LGBTQ people is a pathway to understanding, acceptance and renewed family relationships.

PFLAG Educates
Knowledge that is both scientifically and psychologically sound is absolutely vital to understanding and accepting an LGBTQ family member or friend.

We educate ourselves and our community through monthly programs led by members and guest speakers, informational brochures, a lending library of books, a speaker's bureau, assistance to educators and classes, a booth at fairs, media appearances, and our bi-monthly newsletter.

PFLAG Advocates
As loving parents, family members, and friends, we work to secure equal civil rights for all people, especially our LGBTQ loved ones.

Telling the personal stories of our families and loved ones offers the most compelling testimony the public can hear.

PFLAG National responds to local, state, national and international issues with public statements, authoritatitve educational materials, public appearances and interviews, and by providing expert testimony at governmental hearings.  A national rapid-response network keeps local affiliates and members informed of issues calling for immediate response.
