On June 14 at 7 PM -SAGE-RI is grateful to AARP Rhode Island for the opportunity to present the acclaimed documentary ‘Gen Silent’. Filmed in nearby Massachusetts, this documentary reveals the challenges faced by the silent generation in later life. Those who fought the earliest battles for equality now confront the prospect of “returning to the closet” to avoid discrimination. This documentary celebrates their strength and resilience while highlighting the need for more inclusive senior services. The moderated discussion led by Mr. Freeman T. Freeman, MSW.

On June 21 at 7 PM The ‘Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson’ follows prominent figures in the gay liberation and transgender rights movement in New York City from the 1960s to the 1990s. A veteran of the Stonewall Rebellion and co-founder with Sylvia Rivera of the Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries, Marsha P. Johnson raised issues still relevant today. Her words ring true “How many years has it taken people to realize that we are all brothers and sisters and human beings in the human race?” The film centers on activist Victoria Cruz's investigation into Johnson's death in 1992, which was initially ruled a suicide by police despite suspicious circumstances. Rev. Dr. Gwendolyn Howard, D.Min, LICSW will lead the moderated discussion.
