Support the Rhode Island Freedom to Read Act!
Across the country there are a small number of organized groups of people who are making a concerted effort in local communities, including in Rhode Island, to ban books and curriculum and insert policies that negatively impact the lives of our LGBTQ+ children and loved ones, as well as our Constitutional protection of free speech and ability to read whatever we choose. Rhode Island supports the Constitutional rights of all its citizens and, as such, has proposed legislation affirming our Free Speech rights in the form of the RI Freedom to Read Act.
The following document is an overview of the proposed Rhode Island Freedom to Read Act that is currently being under discussion in both the RI Senate and House of Representatives. Also attached below are copies of the actual text of each of these bills. Please review and support this important legislation to protect our First Amendment rights to free speech. Contact your RI State Senator and Representative to express your strong support for passage of this bill!
