It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of a member of our PFLAG family and long-term board member, Roy Eastman.  Roy passed away Tuesday evening after having been ill for several weeks.  Although I didn’t know Roy all that well personally, I do know that as a father of a gay son (now deceased), he had a strong belief in the mission of PFLAG to provide support, education and advocacy for the families and members of the LGBTQ community.  He was a dedicated volunteer and member of our Greater Providence Chapter.  It was during a brief conversation my husband and I had with Roy and his wife Jane, who is also a devoted member and the Vice President of our PFLAG chapter’s board, at one of the Gay Men’s Choral concerts that I had a glimpse into the depth and breadth of Roy’s life and career.  I wish I had had more time to socialize and get to know him better.  On behalf of PFLAG Greater Providence, we extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Jane and their family.  We will greatly miss his presence at our meetings and events.
You can read about Roy’s accomplishments in his obituary that is posted on the Robbins Funeral Home website.  Here is the link: http://www.robbinsfuneralhome.com/fh/obituaries/obituary.cfm?o_id=3623096&fh_id=10913
Calling hours will be on Friday, March 11th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Robbins Funeral Home, 2251 Mineral Spring Avenue, North Providence.  His funeral will be held Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 a.m. at the Beneficent Congregational Church, 300 Weybosset Street, Providence.  Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roy’s memory may be made to PFLAG Greater Providence, P.O. Box 41344, Providence, RI 02940 or on-line via our website, pflagprovidence.org.  Contributions may also be made to the Miriam Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box H, Providence, RI 02901 or the Beneficent Congregational Church Deacons Fund, 300 Weybosset Street, Providence, RI 02903.
