The purpose of the Personal Stories Page is to provide visitors with some insight into the feelings and emotions surrounding the initial coming out to a parent, family member or friend either from the perspective of either the individual who came out as LGBT or Q or from the parent, family member or friend. Or both.
We all know the critical role of hearing personal stories of being LGBTQ or having a family member who is either lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or gender non-conforming was to passing marriage equality legislation not only in Rhode Island but in many other states as well. We feel by telling our stories we can educate people about just what it means to our families to have out LGBTQ loved ones treated with respect, dignity and equality, just like everyone else.
So, please tell us YOUR story. It doesn't have to be long. You can email it to us at PFLAG Greater Providence at pflagprovidence@gmail.com. Just put "Personal Story" in the subject line. We will use firstnames only or you can request we use an alias or no names for privacy purposes. No problem. Don't worry about grammar or spelling, we will edit for those.
